Tea Films, Filming the Filmers and Hovercraft Documentary

This month’s club evening was split into three parts.
Part 1: Several films based on the theme of “Making a cup of Tea” made by members on a previous evening were shown – same subject, but all very different!
Part 2: Filming the filmers. This part was organised by Rob and consisted of one group making a film while another group filmed the filmers – as always, we look forward to seeing the results
Part 3: This part of the evening was spent in discussing the planned club documentary on the Lee on the Solent Hovercraft museum and what that entails. Steve has already produced a draft script! looks like we will have more than enough to keep us occupied on that one!

An Evening with a Professional Cameraman!

JP English has been involved in the film industry, freelancing since 2009. He has worked on many commercial projects with clients including Sony, HMV, Waterstones, BBC, ITV and Channel 4, mainly as a camera operator. He talked about his time in this professional environment and gave us some very interesting insights into a world which most of us will never have a chance to experience.

An interesting evening filming “Making a cup of Tea”

On Wed April 8, members were each given a variety of shot types to include in their Tea Making films, but otherwise it was “do as you please”.
It will be interesting to see just what has been produced once all of the editing and post production has taken place!

Another Tasty Christmas Dinner!

In December 2025, 37 members gathered at Lowford Café for our traditional Club Christmas Dinner. Gary and the team provided excellent service, and the evening featured a festive quiz and a raffle organized by Angie.

Happy Christmas and a Healthy New Year to everyone for 2026!

Ho, Ho, Hopeless: Spoof Movie Night

For the final club evening of 2025, members split into three teams to write, act, and film a “spoof” Christmas movie. Santa hats and festive decorations were in full supply as teams created hilarity on set.

A Ramble in Hamble

In June 2025, members and their partners (and dogs!) enjoyed a ramble around the picturesque village of Hamble Le Rice. The afternoon of filming was followed by a social gathering in the garden of the King and Queen pub.

Alien Assistance

During our June club event, we filmed Ian’s short “Alien” script with the help of visiting actors. The shoot utilized multiple camera angles and professional sound recording on Peter’s microphone systems. Post-production for special effects is currently underway.

Filming “The News”

A March club evening organized by Rob and Howard focused on professional techniques including Green Screen, lighting setups, and an Autocue. Members acted in and filmed a spoof newscast.

Surrey Borders Inter-Club Winners!

Solent MovieMakers won the Surrey Borders Moviemakers Trophy for the second year running! Our short film “Vader’s Apprentice” took first prize, beating stiff competition from other regional clubs.

We also secured a win in the Southern Counties Regional Competition with “Someone to Watch Over Me”, written by Ian Marriott and directed by Howard Blake.
